Last spring, rumors circulated around about the relationship between two of Newsound's newer idols- AYO's Min.T and Class B's Jinni. After leaving the spring festival together, the pair had been spotted in Coex Mall before returning to AYO's dorm together, where Jinni was spotted leaving alone in a rush early that next morning. Fans and netizens speculated over just how close the pair actually were; it was well-known that the two have been very good friends for a while but those events quickly led to much guessing over whether or not there was something more than just friendship between them.
Though many were convinced that the rookies were in fact dating, Newsound was quick to deny everything, and it was later revealed that Jinni had mistakenly fallen asleep that night and as such, didn't return to Class B's own dorm until the following morning. However, even then netizens were quick to assume the claims were an all-to convenient lie meant to cover the real relationship between the two, convinced that the two had to have been dating.
Since then, Min.T and Jinni have been spotted together many times over the past several months. It had even been noted that Min.T accompanied Jinni on more than one occasion when she met to rehearse with her former D3ITY partner Adonis, now a member of OMEGA's duo V-SUN, for the summer collaboration concert held in Los Angeles, USA. Despite being seen together so frequently, rumors quickly died down over if the two were a couple or not, though most still seemed convinced they had to have been.
Just before Valentine's Day, it was revealed that Newsound would be debuting a new sub-unit named 2 Namja Yeoja United, or 2NYU. Prior to their debut as a new sub-unit, Min.T and Jinni sat down with one of our interviewers to talk about the project they've been working on. During the interview the two explained that in their spare time between AYO's and Class B's activities, they spent a lot of time putting together a small collection of songs. They described the music as being different from their typical styles with AYO and Class B respectively, saying these new songs have a very light and fun style to them that reflects their pair's personalities especially when they're together. Naturally, the interviewer couldn't help but to bring up the dating scandal the pair were in. That combined with their love-oriented songs on their new mini album, it came as no surprise when the interviewer had asked them, "Based of the previous rumors and now these new songs, are you two really are just such close friends, or are you actually dating?"
The question seemed to have caught both idols by surprise, based off of their suddenly nervous and almost bashful behavior. While Min Hyuk nodded a silent confirmation, Jinni had been quick to respond with her own question, "Is it really that obvious?" The pair were noted to have not-so-discreetly grabbed one another's hands as they went on to explain to the now very-excited reporter that they had in fact been dating since Jinni's birthday back in late December. They went on to also say, "It doesn't seem fair to hide our relationship from everyone, we would rather be open and honest with our fans who mean so much to us."
This revelation has been met with mixed opinions. Many netizens have been quick to claim that the pair were likely dating since rumors first broke out about them, and that the news is only coming out now to prevent any unwanted reveals of their relationship to the public. Some fans have expressed hurt at potentially being lied to by the pair, though both have insisted that they haven't been together for very long, and certainly not since the scandal that broke out about them the year before. However, many others have expressed support for the young couple and were glad the two have opted to be honest about their relationship instead of hiding it from the general public.
There's been no word on just how this news will affect 2NYU's promotions. Their debut mini album, "200%", contains five tracks that Min.T and Jinni created together. A music video for their title track, with another video for their song "Give Love" also now able to be viewed, was released at the same time the album was dropped. The album's songs cover an array of emotions from the start to the end of relationships, focusing strongly on the idea of love that blends well with their Valentine's Day release date.
