It was not easy to have a day scheduled where she was completely free what with award shows and holidays around the corner, but she had somehow managed to negotiate with Sae Guk Productions to have some time with her family after her obligations were done. Because she did not need to travel out of the city to do so, it was easier to have "time off". Leaving her son in the care of a baby-sitter was not her idea of tending to her motherly duties, and she'd so desperately wanted to spend New Year's with him and Jun Seok. They'd had a quiet evening together with some traditional food she'd prepared and some family games to entertain their son.
But the holidays were over and he was back in school. She was waiting to go pick him up now, something she rarely got to do, but the school was prestigious and there was a contract that there would be no disturbances for her to pick him up from there. As long as she remained inconspicuous and didn't draw attention to herself, she would be alright.
Unlike her love, she had never had any interest in fame, fortune, or glory. A nice, normal life was what she craved. She would have been content to live in a rural village raising their son with a 9 to 5 job, living in a small, simple space, preparing meals or tending to the house if she didn't work, perhaps composing songs in her spare time. She had not been granted with a normal life, though fate had tricked her, and as a child she had imagined that she'd grow up very normal indeed until the death of her mother. But today wasn't a day to dwell on old demons long laid to rest.
She took her small compact out of her purse and dabbed some concealer under her eyes. She was tired, lack of sleep finally catching up with her health. She was preparing new songs for an album and learning a choreographed dance, something which she wasn't too keen on. She had never been one for dancing unless it was something elegant- ballet or ballroom- but this particular song would do well with a dance scene for the music video concept the company was planning. At least two years their artist she had some say in what she produced in her videos.
Hye Mi wasn't exactly a pop starlet, though her songs did fall into the broad Pop genre. She liked ballads, slow songs, deep, meaningful lyrics that related somehow to her life. But she couldn't really tell people about her life- except everyone could relate to the feeling of being or wanting to be in love.
She smiled as she looked down at her phone and swiped to unlock it as a new message arrived. It was just her manager, letting her know her schedule for the next day, or rather reminding her of it. She knew she had to get back to work, but today was for resting, for spending time with him. She was early at their chosen meeting place- a quiet park covered in a thick blanket of white snow. Only couples brave enough to push through the icy cold were out today, it was likely they wouldn't be noticed together.
Glancing up from her phone, she saw a waving hand, and she smiled to herself. There was no mistaking that slightly curly hair and the dimples that accented his smile. "Jun Seok-oppa," she breathed out his name, the affectionate term tacked onto the end. Sometimes she felt a little too old to still be using it, but other times it made her remember their high school days when she'd shyly call out to him, waving at him enthusiastically as she saw him in the mornings. He had been the only person to be able to make her smile that way.
"I'm so glad you're here," she stood up and adjusted her tan coat over her babydoll dress. Her boots pressed into the snow and she pulled down her red scarf as she approached him. "I'm sorry that I chose this place. It wasn't supposed to be snowing today," but at the same time, with all of their days spent in the company's practice rooms, being outside even in the snow was pretty nice. She needed the fresh air to clear her head.
She took his hand, gently, showing her affection to him as she gently pressed the pad of her thumb against his palm. "You look tired. Have you been sleeping well?" One of the things she hated, sometimes, was how he had to live in the dormitories. But, she understood it. The group had to bond and as the leader of Straight Ace, it was his job to see to it that the boys were always on schedule. Not that the manager couldn't do it, but the leader as he explained was the bridge between the manager and the group, someone who the boys could relate to but at the same time someone still mature enough to be in charge.
If he was living at home with her, though, she would see to it that he slept well and ate well- today, at least, she could make sure he ate well. No fast-food and no-take out. She had already gotten together a list of ingredients at the grocery store and had begun to make dinner before she'd even left the house that morning. Having a nice, traditional, family dinner would be the perfect way to celebrate the new year together. ... She hoped. Part of her did worry Jun Seok wouldn't like it, that it would be too plain or not exciting, but they rarely got to do family things nowadays.
"I'm sure I know someone who will be looking forward to seeing appa," she said softly, taking his arm so that they could start walking through the frozen park. It was beautiful- covered in snow and ice, but it was cold. Terribly cold. She leaned against him for warmth, though with the amount of clothes they were both wearing it didn't do much.
